What the media likes to tell you is that all psychics are Mani, mainly because of some superior ability that lets them be so. If there are any psychics that arent Mani, it's because they got lucky enough to be born on the planet Lollunia.

This isn't true.

There is no special trait of the Mani that make them psychic, neither is there any special trait of the planet they live on. Psychic abilities are passed on from one person to another. It's easiest to describe the passing on of psychic abilites as an infection. A psychic can choose to enter another persons dream, find a way to make the victim aware of their presence, purposefully turn them, and bam, the victim now has the key to unlocking their psychic abilities. If someone has the 'key' to their psychic abilities, yet is unaware of this fact, they will live in blissful ignorance of their powers.

I lived like this for a while. Why would I know that when a psychic talks to you directly in your dream, it's a two way street? My research on the history of psychics did not tell me so. They didn't want me to know this and I didn't know Nik well enough at the time to be told how to access illegal books.

I'm no good at being psychic. Ylla brought me into this new life and Ylla is now forced to hold my hand as I travel through it. This isn't exactly unusual in the sense that the newborn psychic's mentor is generally supposed to guide and watchover the baby as they blindly stumble around. But typically the newborn psychic has a far bigger support network.

Traditionally, a psychic chooses a protege and bestows powers upon them, later inviting them to study at one of the Alhellan Psychics Academy branches. The protege then does their regular secondary school education, but only now alongside others like them and slowly being brainwashed into what the Board of Psychics want them to believe. There are no documented cases of non-Mani studying at the Alhellan Psychics Academy.

The study at the Academy typically starts with simple abilities and then you slowly work your way up to big stuff like sophisticated, targeted predictions and memory regression therapy. If you're insane and do further education, you can do dangerous stuff like possess people or connect people with a self-made hive mind (yes, non-psychics can join the hive mind with no ill effects). I, personally, would rather not do that because if some of my friends found out I could, that'd invite some weird requests.

What is the Science Behind a Psychic?

A long, long time ago, our dimension was torn a bit when a being thought it would be a good idea to jump through (please don't blame her, it's not like anyone was around to tell her what would happen, and someone had to do it). Not enough that it caused any significant problems, but just enough that the permanent fabric of reality was weakened, (see Interdimensional Space for more info) giving every person some access to the spaces in between.

When I say everyone, I mean that every person in the galaxy (so as long as they aren't digital) can enter interdimensional space-time through their dreams. Sleeping puts your mind in a state that can safely pass through the astral plane, albeit in a very limited way. Normally, you're limited to your own personal sphere of memory, which is difficult to interpret to the non-psychic and typically comes out as a chaotic collection of dreams based on your most recent memories and thoughts. Most of the time, these dreams are forgotten. If you're in a really distressed state, you can come to some form of consciousness that manifests as one of those weird near-death experiences where people claim to see the afterlife. Apparently, Michael had a whole conversation with Eris when he 'died' but Eris claims this didn't happen (both of them like to lie for no reason though so don't quote me on this).

Yes, Eris does hang out in the astral plane sometimes. Her explanation of the experience was so confusing I can't write it down, sorry.

Psychics have limited control over the astral plane. Ylla compared travelling in the spaces between to what it would be like wading across a powerful river. To find someones mind, the psychic needs to learn how to find the shore safely. Therefore, most psychics learn to enter dreams by latching on to strong emotions. Ylla, for example, finds it easiest to latch onto fear.

See how this is awful sometimes?

When inside a dream, they can exert more power with the fascinating ability to access both the dreamers and their own memories. They can walk through the memories of the dreamer. Though, the psychic must be careful, because the dreamer may follow, live their own memories again through their dream, and, if they know what patterns to look for, wake up knowing someone had visited. Nik is really good at this, so if you're a psychic reading this, don't even try.

The psychic can walk through an individuals memories as though it is a physical place. Once, Michael, Ylla, and I conducted an experiment (all parties consenting) where she dragged me into his head. Very strange. I'm not going to go into details, but you could really tell what what significant and what was not. If you know him, you'll understand why his memories were the strongest in the past seven or so years. Brains are cool, don't want to go back there though.

If the psychic walks through the memories of a dreamer and the dreamer is lucid dreaming, they need to be exceptionally careful. If the dreamer notices the psychic, as I said before, the dreamer is now also psychic. This is extremely rare, because normally the psychic gets the hell out of there as soon as they can. Thankfully, its easy to tell when someone is lucid dreaming.

A psychic can also latch on to other more finicky parts of the astral plane. As explained in my page on interdimensional space, the astral plane / the fourth dimension / whatever exists at every moment at once. We just find it easier to stick to our own time because if we go too far our brains might explode or something, I don't know. It's almost impossible to jump past a certain number of years, because to access memories in different times, it's best to know a person present. They can be dead, if you're asking. I could, in theory, go visit my grandpa's brain when he was 25, but it would require some serious mental effort.

Travelling forward (note: travelling forward leads to probabilities not certainties) to other time periods is what people call 'prophetic visions'. The difficulty of accessing the time part of space-time typically makes these visions random. Sometimes you will be violently tossed ashore and your brain will connect you to your own mind across your own future and give you little tidbits about what was going to happen. Ylla knew of my existence because we would be friends later. We only became friends because Ylla's psychic dreams told her so. It's all just a big circle.

Zed was allegedly very good at this, especially with other people. One thing Zed was also good at was mapping the mental frequencies of the people they wanted to torture (notably, the Planetesimals). They'd then build a boat and propell themself across the astral river to the mind of a poor sucker and jot down all the potential catastrophies ahead in their future.

Mental frequencies? What does that mean?

Mental Frequencies

Sorry, I don't know how else to put it.

Everyone has a mental frequency. It's imperceptable to the non-psychics out there, even the powerful frequencies. This is one of the few abilities that can be accessed awake, because it is relatively simple. The mind can pass through the unconsious plane when awake in small pieces and access other individuals mental frequencies. There are different 'levels' that are easier or harder to access:

Regular: Also known as any stranger on the sidewalk. Do you remember every face you see? No? Then don't expect to remember every mind you detect. Enough said.

Associates: You talk to these people often, you enjoy their company. Maybe you even really enjoy their company. However, these are still regular people without anything special about them. You can probably spot them on an average street corner, but don't expect to detect them in a large crowd. I can name a few people like this. My family, Michael, Bel, etc.

Altered Minds: Another strange heading, but it's quite unusual. I've only encountered this once, and no it is not a powerful frequency because I have an attachment to this person Michael. Anyhow, the only person who (currently) (hopefully) fits under this category and is both a. still alive and b. not under another category, is Nik. From what we (Nik, Ylla, I) can best gather was that at some point when they were growing up, Nik was subject to a significant amount of permanent [[Memory erasure]]. This left an impact on their mind that has a slight effect on their mental frequency. Surely there are other individuals out there who've had memories erased, but not on such a scale that the energies would be perceptable to a psychic. Ylla and I can sense it and, from what bits we could gather from their regular ominous tidbits, so could Zed.

Clones: Definitely more noticable than the previous few, centri produced clones have a similar aura to their parent counterparts, but rather feel like what the mental equivalent of a photocopied piece of paper would be like. You can definitely spot a clone in a crowd. Notable individuals experiencing this include: my father, my father, my father, and my father...

Psychics: Bit self explanatory, it's got a similar feeling to when you see someone wearing a shirt with something you like on it, and you've got one on too. You might glance at each other for a moment, but rarely will you start a conversation unless you've got free time. A unique property of this one is that with the more strong a psychic is, the more powerful a signature. The really strong psychics can cloak their frequencies completely (but do they? No. Because these guys love bragging). If someone is technically psychic, but hasn't been informed that they posess the key, they'll be relegated to one of the lower levels, think somewhere around 'associates' and 'altered minds'. This is likely how I went around undetected for so long. If any psychic detected me, they were too awkward to say anything.

Eris: It's well known that when Eris speaks, she doesn't literally make a sound, she sort of convinces your brain that she said something. She is so attuned to the other plane of reality, she pings any psychic in a 15km radius constantly like a very chill neutron star. Thankfully, she's very easy to tune out.

'Immortals': Whether or not you think it's fair to call them this, those plagued with 'Immortality' have one of the worst auras of them all. Simply being in a half-kilometer radius is painful. Their mental frequency is so nauseating Ylla has told me she has had to go vomit in one of the bathrooms in the backstage areas of a venue before. Though you might blame this aura on the general character of their beings, I can tell you that both Ymgen and Damien truly inflict literal psychic damage. If in the vicinity of an 'immortal' when sleeping, the psychic is tortured with terrible visions. Long-term effects of exposure to these individuals yet to be studied.
